Gymkhana

Gymkhana by definition means to play timed, speed games on horseback.

Timed speed events such as barrel racing, keyhole, flag racing, and pole bending are designed to display precise, controlled action and teamwork between the horse and rider at speed. Bring your best seat and get ready to challenge yourself in these events.

Check out the patterns below to be ready for game day!

Barrel Race Pattern

Three barrels will be placed in a triangular formation. The rider will cross the start line, ride to barrel #1, and circle to the right. Ride to barrel #2, and circle to the left. Ride to barrel #3, and circle to the left. Ride to the finish line passing between barrels #1 & #2.

Flag Pattern

Two barrels will be set 100 ft apart, 100 ft from the start/finish line. The rider will ride to one barrel, pick up the flag from the bucket and ride to the second barrel to deposit the flag. The rider will then proceed back to the start/finish line.

Keyhole Race

Ride through the poles; the horses hindquarters must pass the two end poles before the rider reverses course and ride back through the poles at the start/finish line.

Chalked Keyhole Pattern

From the start/finish line, ride through the neck of the circle( all 4 of the horses feet need to be in the circle), turn the horse 180 degrees, and ride back through the neck to the start/finish line.

Pole Bending

After crossing the start/finish line, the rider will weave ( bends) around the opposite side of each pole, turn around the last pole, and will ride back to the start/finish line.
